It is with unbelievable sadness that the King family announce the passing of 39 year old Michael Douglas King. Michael fought a hard battle with cancer for seven years but the angels came for him on Tuesday, December 6th, 2022 in Vernon, B.C. His family were at his side. His job on earth was done…Heaven called him back leaving behind a large loving family. Our hearts are broken.
Michael was born in Fort McMurray, Alberta, September 28, 1983. He attended Father Beauregard Elementary, Greely Road School and the Fort McMurray Composite High. What an amazing athlete and team player he was. Michael continued his friendship with his school teammates long after he left Fort McMurray.
Michael fell head over heels for Jelena Martinovic in Fort McMurray in 2009. They married and had two daughters; Abigail and Lily. They had many adventures together from travelling to visit family in B.C. and Ontario to Europe, Croatia, Mexico and the United States. As a family, they loved many outdoor activities like camping, skiing, swimming, and biking. Michael was an avid chef…of course preparing only healthy foods which often left his family asking what exactly he had prepared….usually spicy and very tasty. He loved gardening and rescued many insects delighting in having the insects walk all over his hands as he and his daughters examined them. There was always a lesson to be learned which his daughters attended to and taught others.
Michael leaves behind his family…his mother Sheran, brother, Derek (Jodi), sister, Christie as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, brothers-in law, sisters-in-law and grandparents.
Michael is predeceased by his father, Doug King, grandparents, Monica and Bud Hoover, Aunt Marion Hoover, Uncle Dan Hoover and cousin Jesse Stephens.
A Celebration of Michael’s life is planned for April in Vernon and May in Fort McMurray.
