November 5, 1940 – December 2, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mom Maureen Ann Catherine Johnson (nee Shaw). Mom was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Barry and her parents Bernard and May Shaw. She is survived by daughters Karen (Curt) and Cathy (Al), and son Wayne, 5 grandchildren Jana (Matt), Greg, Jason, Allison (Clay), and Cameron, 8 great-grandchildren Adelynne, Hillary, Luca, Anthony, Aspen, Lachlan, Nathan and Daxon, sisters Evelyn (Maurice) and Lynda (Ray), sisters in law Fern, Patricia, Lynda and Myrna (Dale), brother in law Dale, and many nieces and nephews.
Maureen was born and raised in Quebec City. After finishing school she took a job at the army base in New Brunswick where she met Barry. Karen was born there and when Barry was deployed to Egypt, she went to stay with his family in Saskatchewan, where Cathy was born. When Barry returned, they moved to Winnipeg and Wayne was born there. From Winnipeg they went to Thunder Bay, then back to Winnipeg, then Edmonton, Prince Rupert and Port Coquitlam. In the early 80’s they moved to the Cranbrook area where they enjoyed a quieter life on the ranch. In 2015 when it got to be too much, they moved to Armstrong, and finally Vernon. Throughout all the moves, Maureen made many lifelong friends.
Maureen loved to quilt and loved to garden. She loved animals, especially the “woofers”. But most importantly she loved her family. She kept a journal each year that listed everyone’s birthday and anniversary and always made a point of reaching out to them. She was the very heart of our family.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Osprey Court for their exceptional care in her final days.
A celebration of life will be planned for the spring. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Maureen’s name would be appreciated to honor her life.
“We are the rememberers. We keep the ones who are gone from us alive in our hearts and minds.”
