In Loving Memory
Martha passed away peacefully in her 91st year in Vernon BC.
She was born Martha Striegl in Pfatter, Germany. One of five children, she emigrated alone to Canada in her early twenties. There she met and married Albert Presslaber who had emigrated alone from Austria. They built a home in Blind River Ontario where their two children, Timothy Joseph and Lynn Anna were raised. Sadly Martha was widowed at age 29 and spent her life being mother and father and supporting her family. Martha loved trees, bees and being Nana to grandson Stephen McCue. She inspired her children with her inventive and creative talents. She will be missed but as she liked to say ‘see you later alligator’, we will meet again.
A Poem Martha chose:
When I’m Gone
When I come to the end of my journey
And I travel my last weary mile,
Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned
And remember only the smile.
Forget unkind words I have spoken;
Remember some good I have done,
Forget that I ever had a heartache
And remember I’ve had loads of fun.
Forget that I’ve stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way,
Remember I have fought some hard battles
And won, at the close of the day,
Then forget to grieve for my going
I would not have you sad for a day,
But in summer just gather some flowers
And remember the place where I lay
Come when the sun paints the sky in the west
Stand beside me and remember only my best
