It is with profound sadness, heavy hearts and indescribable grief that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved brother, husband, father, relative and friend, Mark Patrick Flahiff.
Mark was born in Victoria, BC on May 15,1957, and passed away at the age of 64 on February 15, 2022 at Kelowna General Hospital. He leaves behind the love of his life, wife and best friend, Louise Flahiff (nee Daminato), his cherished son, Michael Cesare, his three brothers, Terrence (Debra Lee), Michael and Don (Judy), his mother-in-law, Mary Angela Daminato, brother-in-law, Roger (Lauranne), nieces Krysta and Renee as well as many relatives and close friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Michael John and Mary Agnes, his beloved uncles, Fred and Don, his father-in-law, Cesare and his beautiful dog and companion, Butterfly.
Mark was a caring, generous person always willing to help out a friend or stranger. He had a keen intellect and sharp wit that kept us all laughing. He was always ready for a good time, loved to entertain, and enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved everybody, and had many life-long friends in Victoria, Vancouver and Vernon. Mark was the life of a party and filled a room with laughter and joy whenever he was around. Besides being hilarious, he was an avid reader informed on a number of topics from history to science to politics to movies.
Mark was involved in soccer communities both in Vancouver with the C-Men and in Vernon with the Camels as a player, coach and fan. He recently retired from his chosen career as a school teacher in School District 22 where he was a very passionate “Teacher On Call” for both High School and Elementary children.
Our family would like to offer our sincere gratitude and thanks to the staff at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital and especially the skilled and compassionate Vascular surgical team and the staff of the Intensive Care Unit A at Kelowna General Hospital who made every possible effort and were so patient and supportive to the family at this most difficult time.
We would also like to thank our family, friends and our Community for all the love, support and gifts of flowers and food they have provided in these last few weeks. They have brought us much comfort.
For those who wish to honour Mark, the family would appreciate donations in his name to the KGH Foundation, the Vernon Salvation Army Food Bank, Vernon SPCA or a charity of your choice.
Mark will be forever loved and never forgotten.
There will be a Celebration of Mark’s Life in Vernon on March 25th at 2pm at the Vernon Golf & Country Club and another in Vancouver at the Point Grey Golf & Country Club on April 8 at 2pm.
