Lina Furlan passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024, in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, at the age of 86.
Born on September 13, 1937, in the village of Murlis in the Province of Pordenone, Italy, Lina was the beloved daughter of Mario and Teresa Stradiotto.
She was the second of five children, sharing a close bond with her sisters Concetta and Maria and later welcoming her twin brothers, Graziano and Peppino.
Lina with her steamer trunk, immigrated to Canada in early May 1958, embarking on a new chapter filled with love and adventure.
On May 31, 1958, she married Mario Furlan at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Castlegar, British Columbia, becoming the first couple to wed in their new church.
Together, Lina and Mario built a beautiful life in Castlegar, raising two sons, Claudio (Ronda), and Fabio (Cheryl).
She was known for her exceptional culinary skills, making every meal a delightful experience.
A true gift to dine at her table, her cooking was renowned throughout the community.
Lina worked for many years at the local corner grocery, Bob’s Pay’n’Takit’s lunch counter, where she made lasting connections with local business people and where she developed skills in butchery and bookkeeping.
Her warmth and hospitality extended beyond her home, as she volunteered at St. Rita’s and engaged in community activities.
Lina loved picnics, playing cards, dancing, and swimming, finding joy in simple pleasures and the company of loved ones.
The garden she shared with Mario, was her pride and joy, a testament to her love for nature and hard work.
Lina’s life was enriched by the people she met and the relationships she nurtured, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
Lina is predeceased by her husband Mario, her sister Concetta, and her brother Peppino.
She leaves behind her sister Maria, brother Graziano, her loving sons, granddaughter Andrée and Ronda’s daughter Sonja (Matt), and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Uncle Silvio and Aunt Nives for their thoughtful and compassionate care, as well as to Marinella, Enzo, Aleksandra, Fernando, and Dr. Barrs for their dedicated support.
Lina will be interred in Queen’s Park Mausoleum, Calgary, Alberta, alongside her beloved husband Mario.
A family memorial will be held to celebrate and honor her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, or the Alzheimer Society of Canada in Lina’s memory.
