LaVerne Dunn passed away peacefully on September 27th, 2021 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital after a 15 month battle with cancer. She fought fiercely with grace and tenacity. She is survived by her son Vincent and his wife Doris; grandsons Jordan, Jason (Anja) and Josh; brothers Gerry (Gayle), David (Yi), Tyrone, sister Nicki, and aunt Sylvia as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her father Nicholas, her mother Josephine and step-father Jim.
LaVerne was born in Canora, Saskatchewan in 1941, the oldest of 5 children. The family moved to Port Alberni before settling in Vernon where LaVerne worked at City Hall. In 1980 she moved to Chilliwack where she received her Librarian Degree and also enjoyed being a Mary Kay Consultant for over 30 years.
LaVerne loved to travel and was fortunate to see many parts of the world. She travelled throughout Europe and visited Russia and Ukraine to meet many relatives. Her favourite places to explore were Greece, Turkey, Mexico, Cuba, China, India, USA and eastern Canada. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed painting and drawing on many of her trips. For the past few years LaVerne travelled with her son Vince and daughter-in-law Doris each winter to Cuba and Mexico where they enjoyed many adventures and mojitos together.
LaVerne’s greatest joy in life was her family. Holidays spent together meant a lot to her, enjoying great food and company. She happily embraced the many Danish traditions of Doris’s family, especially dancing around the candlelit Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. She also enjoyed walks in nature, appreciating the beauty around her, no matter the weather. LaVerne had a wonderful, supportive group of friends that she treasured throughout her life.
LaVerne…aka Lolly, Farmor and Mama, leaves her family and friends with many cherished memories and we know her travels continue. She is dearly missed. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
…Dance like no one is watching, drink those mojitos, walk along beautiful beaches and know that you were loved…
