It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear husband, dad, grandpa, greatgrandpa, uncle and friend, Peter Kovacik.
Peter is survived by his wife Edna, 3 sons, Rusty (Dorothy), Gary (Hanna), Gord (Cathie), and daughter Marianne (Robert), 4 grandchildren, Cailey (Scott), Brendan (Kat), Jane (Brayden) and Nicholas, and one great-grandson Peyton, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Frieda, his sister Mary, and brothers, John and Alex.
Peter was born in Coleman, AB, and spent his youth making cherished memories fishing with his father and cavorting around the Crowsnest Pass with his siblings and childhood friends. He then moved to Edmonton where he married Frieda and they raised three children, Gary, Gord, and Marianne. Sadly they lost Frieda in 1967.
He remarried a few years later to Edna and the family grew as he welcomed her son Rusty to the clan.
Peter and Edna shared over 50 years of marriage and had a truly wonderful life of adventures together.
After working for the City of Edmonton in many capacities for over 35 years, Peter proudly retired in 1987 and the golden years really began as they took to the road. The next many years were spent making trips to England, cruises to Alaska, Mexico, and Panama, and so many road trips across Canada and through the States, not to mention adding many more trips to Hawaii which Peter always said was his favorite place to go. His children all inherited that love of “Paradise” as he so fondly referred to it, and the entire family has shared many wonderful vacations in the Aloha State together over the years. Wherever Peter and Edna landed, they always managed to make many wonderful friendships along way.
Peter loved fishing, camping, watching any sport, painting and doing wood-working crafts. But probably his most favorite pastime was to be with his kids, early on helping them with any project they might be doing on their respective homes, and in latter years, just plunk him in a chair and he would happily watch them work for hours!
In recent years, Peter and Edna moved to Vernon, BC to be closer to their kids and enjoyed making a new home in their lovely condo at Coldstream Meadows. Here again Peter was quick to make friends with all the staff and many of the fellow residents, and was a cherished part of the Coldstream Meadows family.
Anyone that knew Peter knew he had a big voice that certainly could be heard for miles, a big appetite for any good food that was offered to him, a big heart that spanned continents with all the friendships he made, and a big love for his family. He will be missed in the same capacity….BIG.
Love you Dad.
