It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of Ken Lapp due to complications from lung cancer. Ken was born in Fort Vermilion, AB and migrated to Lumby, BC in 1954 where he spent countless hours at the Hanna Ranch. Ken began his logging career at the age of 17 as a hand faller and retired as the world’s greatest grapple skidder operator in April of this year. Ken worked for Balcaen Consolidated for 34 years and considered everyone there his second family. Even after retiring he made a point of heading out to the shop to visit as often as he could.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Donna of 46 years. Together they raised 3 children; Kerri Mandzuk (Darren); Shawn Lapp (Kerry) and Robbie Lapp. Grandchildren; Dakota Mandzuk, Trinity Mandzuk (Eric) and Lylla Lapp. He is further survived by his mother Hilda Shannon, brothers Leonard Lapp (Shirley), Cecil Lapp and sister Vallary Lapp along with countless nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Ken was predeceased by his father Ralf Lapp, brothers Russel Lapp, Laverne Lapp and sister Marlene Lambert.
There will be a celebration of life on November 19, 2022 at 1 PM in the Chalet at Coldstream Ranch. Please bring your memories to share with the family.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made in Ken’s name to the Vernon SPCA.
