We are heartbroken to announce that John David (Dave) Gillespie passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday December 7 at the age of 75 in Armstrong, BC. He will be missed by everyone who had the good luck to know him, but above all, by his loving wife of 51 years Pauline Gillespie and his sons David Howlett and Bradley Gillespie (Michelle), as well as his six loving grandchildren and many extended family members.
Dave was raised in Ayr, Ontario by parents (predeceased) Alice and Wilbert, along with brothers Mick and Barry. After high school he began working in construction, leading him to an apprenticeship and certification in cabinet making through BCIT, and eventually his carpentry certificate, of which he was (and should be) very proud. Most of his long career was spent at Tolko plywood plant in Armstrong, where he always took pride in his precision work and a job well-done.
In his free moments he enjoyed all aspects of the great outdoors including fishing, hunting, and sharing these activities with close friends and his grandsons Max, Spencer and Leo. He had tremendous respect for nature and the order of the living world. He walked softly through his life and spread quiet kindness in all of his actions. He relished adventure, tended his gardens with care, and loved a good beer at the end of a hard day. He will be truly and deeply missed by the many people who loved him.
A Celebration of Life followed by tea will take place at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Friday December 16 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association at cmha.donordrive.com
