James ‘Jim’ Edward Taylor, 81, of Vernon, BC passed away peacefully on the snowy morning of Tuesday December 15, 2020 surrounded by his family.
Jim was born on June 4, 1939 to James Christie Taylor and Doris Rosconi in Steveston, BC. He lived in Steveston until the late 1950’s at which point he would relocate to North Vancouver. In his early years Jim worked at the cannery in Steveston, did a brief stint in the army reserves, took up boxing, and managed the Oasis Car Wash in North Vancouver. It was at the Oasis Car Wash that Jim would meet his future wife, Belinda. The pair would settle down to raise their family in the Lower Lonsdale and Edgemont Village areas of North Vancouver. In his latter years, Jim and family would make the move to the Okanagan, settling in Vernon.
Jim was an avid fan of horse racing & hockey. In fact, it’s hard to know which one he liked more. Almost every year he would make a point of watching the triple crown of racing with at least one of his children. Conversely, he rarely missed a hockey game when the Detroit Red Wings were playing. He would constantly regale his family with tales of how the Red Wings were the best team in the league.
Jim is remembered by his children as having a funny laugh, the kind that is so silly you can’t help but laugh with him. He often did goofy things to make them laugh when they were young and continued to do this with his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife of 44 years, Belinda and his children Tamara (Troy), Cynthia, Ty, Jackie (Mick) and Gordon. He also leaves behind his 4 grandchildren Dominic, Kayla, Alina & Baby “K”.
Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
The family is planning on having a celebration of life next year when everyone can be together again.
