“Our parents give us life. Our grandparents give us a sense of where we came from.”- Unknown
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ila LaRaine Slizak (Howden). Ila passed peacefully on January 31st, 2021, surrounded by family, in the comfort of her own home.
Ila’s long and happy life began when she was born in 1934 at the family farm, on Kettleston Rd. There, she was raised by her mother (Verna) and father (Charles), she attended the single room school-house on Silver Star Rd with her sisters and nurtured her love for horses and birds. Ila was always warm and welcoming and enjoyed bowling, playing golf, cards, darts and crib. If she wasn’t spending time with family or travelling with friends, Ila could be found in her garden, working on puzzles and wordsearch, knitting beautiful slippers and blankets for her grandchildren, or in the kitchen making her unforgettable noodle soup and perogies.
Ila is survived by her children Daryl, Marlene (Harry), Rex (Pam); grandchildren Arlie, Ashley (Chris), Lucas, Shayley and Hayley; great grandchildren Mackinley, Weston and Ila. Ila was predeceased by husband Paul (1976), and sisters Lois (1994) and Aloma (2016).
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, with special recognition to Dr. Brett Poulin for his support and care.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, when friends and family can gather again.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ila’s memory may be made to The National Pancreas Foundation.
