September 20, 1931 – December 5, 2022
Gary Wagner passed away peacefully on December 5, 2022 at the age of 91 in the loving care of Hearth Stone Manor.
Born in Stuttgart, Germany, he became a carpenter and immigrated to Canada in 1955. He worked at various job sites and while working in Alberta he met his wife, Siegrid, who was also from Stuttgart. His adventurous spirit led him to Inuvik, North West Territories, where he married Siegrid and started to raise his family. Gary was a prominent figure in the development of Inuvik. He started Mackenzie Delta Construction and was on the town council. He was known for the construction of the Eskimo Inn, CBC Building, Fire Hall and numerous others. In 1975, he moved the family to a 60-acre apple orchard in Vernon and eventually retired from the North.
He will be remember by his friends for his love of a variety of fruits that he grew and his generosity in enjoying them. He always had a good story to tell about his accomplishments and adventures. He was especially proud of being mentioned in a book written by Hans-Otto Meissner about life in the North. Gary had a magnetic personality. Dad, you were one of a kind.
You will be missed. Predeceased by his wife, Siegrid, in 1994, leaving behind his children: Norman Wagner, Sandra Eschbach, Lucy Glennon (John), Erwin Wagner; and grandchildren, Sabina, Aaron, Connor, Liam, Ursula, Lucien and Dominic as well as sisters, nephews and nieces in Germany.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
