It is with profound sadness that the family of Lyle Finch announces his passing on March 3rd, 2024, at the age of 66. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Vernon Hospice House.
He is lovingly remembered by Kerry, his wife of 35+ years, and his children: Greg (Brietana), Maggie (David), and Will (Kendra); along with his beloved grandchildren Adalie and Hunter, his brothers Ralph (Mary Jane), Howard (Eunice), and his sister Sheila (Barry), as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Lyle was born in McBride, BC, on April 15, 1957, to Albert and Alice Finch. While living in McBride, he formed some of his lifelong friendships. His family moved from McBride to Mica Creek in 1964 and eventually to Vernon in 1969. He attended Coldstream Elementary School, Fulton, and VSS. In his youth, he played competitive sports, including hockey, soccer, and lacrosse. His love of sports continued well into his adult life. Lyle followed baseball, football, and hockey; he was a loyal Habs fan through and through.
After finishing school, he worked in underground services and road construction. Throughout his long and dedicated career, he developed many loyal friendships and was well respected in his field.
Lyle had an immense passion for the outdoors, whether it was hiking to the top of mountains, exploring backroads on his road bike, cross-country skiing the trails at Sovereign Lake, camping with his grandkids, or canoeing on a quiet lake with Kerry at the helm. Lyle also loved to be in the sun, either on a tropical beach or in his own backyard. On a sunny day, you could find him washing his vehicles on the front lawn. His most cherished activity, though, was fishing. As an avid fly fisherman, he loved to be in his boat on a small mountain lake, with an arsenal of handmade flies at his side. He took many of those trips with his good friends, but his favorite fishing partners were his sons; he looked forward to the adventure as much as the catch.
Kerry and family would like to say a very heartfelt thank you to Dr. Raupach, for the years of exceptional care and friendship. To the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Vernon Cancer Centre, your extraordinary kindness, love and care was greatly appreciated throughout these past two years. Thank you to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital 6th floor nurses and doctors as well as the Vernon Hospice House for your warmth and thoughtfulness.
A donation can be made in memory of Lyle to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation McMurtry-Baerg – Cancer Centre or the North Okanagan Hospice Society.
Lyle’s celebration of life will be held at the Coldstream Community Hall on April 6th, 2024, at 1 pm.
