1929 to 2022
With great sadness we say farewell to a loving mother, sister and wife. Elsie was called to the Lord in her sleep on February 27, 2022. She suffers no more.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles (Chuck) in 2011 and two younger sisters Elly and Ruth. She leaves behind her 3 sons, Kim (Debbie), Rick and Steve, 6 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Elsie was born on a farm near Melville, SK where she lost her mother and 2 brothers at an early age. Some years later her father remarried and they moved to Swift Current, SK where 3 siblings were born; Brian (Vivian) Schindel, Calvin (Bev) Schindel, and Judy (Sid) Chalmers. Elsie worked in her dad’s store and then waitressing. She met Chuck, and they married. Chuck built a house where they raised their 3 children in Swift Current. Elsie then became a care aid and worked for many years in a Geriatric Center until her retirement. They decided to move to Vernon, BC to be near their children. Elsie had a very strong bond with all of her family and was eager to help them in any way she could. She was a rock! She also had a great love of animals and enjoyed her dogs, cats and bird watching, especially loved watching the hummingbirds.
They joined a Square Dancing Club where they met many new people and made lifelong friends. They were fortunate to travel, explore and dance with this Club in many places around North America. When the Schubert Centre opened they became a lifelong members and spent many hours volunteering. She also loved to play cards and joined a Bridge Club there. She joined a Line Dancing group with friends that she met through the centre, and enjoyed that immensely.
Our mother was a strong, intelligent woman who seldom complained. She was a loyal friend and supporter of her entire family and had a strong sense of community. She will be missed by all who knew her.
As per her request no funeral will be held. A celebration of life will be held when arrangements can be made. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Schubert Center in Vernon, BC.
