In Loving Memory of Edward (Ed) William Ewanchuk
November 7, 1944 – September 16, 2025
With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Edward (Ed) William Ewanchuk, age 80, of Vernon, BC, who passed away peacefully at Hospice House on the morning of September 16, 2025.
Ed was born on November 7, 1944, in Vilna, Alberta, to the late Thomas and Mary Ewanchuk. When Ed was a toddler, his family relocated to Vernon, BC, where he spent his early years on the family farm in South Vernon. The second oldest of five children, Ed’s childhood was filled with adventure—hiking the hills, skating in winter on the local sewer plant, riding the bus to pick beans, and setting pins at the bowling alley. These stories became some of Ed’s favourite tales to share.
In 1966, Ed met Audrey Ausum on a blind date. After a short yet meaningful courtship, they married on September 9, 1967, in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Together, they built a loving home and raised two daughters, Tanya and Nicole. Ed was a devoted husband and father, always ready to step into any role, including being the only dad at many Brownie and Girl Guide events.
Ed began his 36-year career with Canada Post in Fort St. John in 1964. In 1966, following the passing of his father, he transferred to Vernon, where he would continue to serve the community until his retirement in 2000.
Throughout his decades of service, Ed became a familiar and trusted presence among downtown businesses and residents alike. Known for delivering mail with care, consistency, and a personal touch.
With an exceptional memory and keen attention to detail, Ed could pinpoint any address in town and possessed an incredible knowledge of Vernon’s changing landscape over the years. His dedication, reliability, and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Even after retirement, Ed remained active and engaged. He served as Treasurer of the Canada Post Heritage Club from 2007 to 2024 and generously gave his time to countless local causes and events. His volunteer efforts included work with the Vernon Fire Department, BC Seniors Games, BC Winter Games, World Women’s Curling Championship, Canadian Seniors Men’s and Ladies Curling Championship, Special Olympics, Vernon Winter Carnival Balloon Fiesta, and the Downtown Business Association.
Ed’s life was defined by his unwavering service to others, love for his family, and a zest for the simple joys in life. He loved spending time outdoors—whether walking at dawn, cycling with friends along the Rail Trail and back roads, camping, or fishing. He had a gift for noticing the little things and never missed an opportunity to share the beauty he observed.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Audrey; daughters Tanya Page (Reid) and Nicole Coutts (Darren); granddaughter Emily Page; as well as a circle of lifelong friends, treasured neighbours, and more recent connections that grew into valued friendships
The family would like to extend their deepest and most sincere gratitude to the exceptional staff and volunteers at the North Okanagan Hospice Care Society. During Ed’s final days, their compassion, dedication, and loving care brought immense comfort to both him and our family. Their kindness and support during such a difficult time will never be forgotten. They are truly remarkable people, and we are forever thankful for the warmth and love they shared with Ed and all of us.
Ed’s presence, warmth, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Ed on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 1:00pm at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, Vernon, B.C. 250-542-4333
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ed’s name to the North Okanagan Hospice Society 3506 27th Ave, Vernon BC V1T 1S4
