Douglas Donovan King 1953-2019

It is with broken hearts that the KING family announces the passing of Doug King, aged 65. After a two year illness he passed away in Vernon, B.C. with his family at his side.
Doug was born in Edmonton, Alberta, the first born of five children to Donovan and Gaybrella King; Doug, David, Bob, Rick and Cathy. When Doug was 10, the family moved to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta where his many childhood adventures took place…many of which he would recount over and over embellishing the stories with each retelling.
Doug lived in Fort McMurray for 43 years, working as a heavy equipment operator for 25 years and the remaining time spent as a real estate agent for RE/Max and Coldwell Banker. He was proud to be able to work along side his wife Sheran of 39 years and his children, Michael and Christie. They were The Real Estate Kings of Fort McMurray. He and Sheran retired in July 2017 and moved to Vernon, B.C. where most of the family lived.
In the mid 90s, his son Derek encouraged him to check out the little surf/fishing village of Sayulita in Mexico. He was hooked and for the next 20 years, Sayulita was their vacation destination. Together, he and Sheran built a beautiful vacation home in 2007 that was to be their retirement home.
Doug enjoyed reading, fishing, cooking and watching cooking shows, playing poker, watching UFC and hockey…especially his grandsons and the Oilers of course. He absolutely loved the time he spent with his grandchildren. Not to be forgotten…he made the best margaritas in Sayulita and possibly all of Mexico (everyone thought).
Doug is survived by his wife Sheran, children; Krishanda (Lawrence), Arianna (Darren), Derek (Jodi), Christie and Michael (Jelena), his grandchildren; Yoenne, Isis, Ethan, Ben, Isabella, Abigail , Lily and Alliyah, his father Donovan and step-mother Suzan, siblings David, Bob and Cathy. He is predeceased by his mother and brother, Rick.
Doug will be greatly missed by many family and friends. The world has lost another great guy!!
A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held on September 21, 2019 at The Quality Hotel in Fort McMurray 2:00-4:00pm.
