Our dearly loved Mom and Grandma, Donna Joanne Johnson passed away March 17, 2021 leaving a great void in our hearts.
Donna was born on August 30, 1937, the eldest child of Charles and Alpha McLean of Hay Lakes Alberta, and lived most of her life in Vernon BC.
Donna gave life and love to three children Jill, Jeff and Ross. Donna’s two grandsons Matthew and Tanner Field were truly the stars in her universe and she took great pride in all their accomplishments. When Matt was 2 years old, he promised her that he would”someday” dance with her, and it was the highlight of her life when she danced with Matt at his wedding. She always looked forward to and enjoyed Matt’s (and later Matt and Dayley’s) regular visits. Tanner’s artistic talent from the time he was little, wasalways of special interest to Donna and she nurtured that creativity, which ultimately set his course in life. She missed seeing Tanner as often, as recently he has been away at University.
Donna was an extremely gifted seamstress and could easily create anything from a dog’s snowsuit to an exquisite wedding gown. For many years she did alterations out of her home and was equally talented when it came to knitting, winning her first knitting competitionwhen she was six.
Donna was a homemaker, a wonderful cook and an awesome baker, much to the delight of friends and family. However, despite these domestic talents, one of the most appreciated times in her later years was when she had housekeeping come to her apartment! Donnawas quiet yet social and enjoyed spending time with her friends, walking and travelling. Her preferred way to relax was to sit with her feet up knitting and watching curling on TV
Life was unkind to Donna the past two years after having a stroke and fighting that battle along with a cancer diagnosis. Donna was a brave and caring woman who will be lovingly remembered by her children Jeff (Joanne Campbell) Johnson, Ross (Kim Kurbis) Johnson,Jill (Pat) Field; Her grandsons Matt (Dayley) Field and Tanner Field; her sister Dianne Brockhoff; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her sisters in law Opal Johnson and Carol (Chester) Woiden and the children’s father Arlo Johnson.
The family is so appreciative of the great care and compassion that Donna received from her very dear friend Betty Holtskog as well as Dr. Raupach and all of the staff from cottage 1 and 5 at Heron Grove.
There will be an livestream of her service on Friday, March 26th at 1:00pm. In Lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate sending your donations to support Heart & Stroke Foundation and Canadian Cancer Society.
