It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our very young 67 year old sister, Debbie Fox on Feb 11, 2022 at The Gateby Care Center. She had only resided there for a short while before Dementia and its complications took her life.
Born in 1954 & raised in Saskatoon until the age of 14 to Bill & Verna Siemens, Deb developed what would be a life-long love for animals starting with bunnies and kittens. It was always a great treat to visit with Uncles & Aunties on their farms where we liberated barn cats to take home. Spot, Fluffy & Puffy were the names the lucky critters were saddled with. We moved to BC in 1968 where Deb’s love of animals grew to include horses & dogs, even though allergies and asthma started to torment her. Such was her determination to own, ride and look after her horses, she took the step of sleeping in the stable for several nights to try and build up a resistance to all the hair and dander that came with the responsibility!
Her work life consisted of working many years at Monahan Agency and The St. John’s Ambulance here in Vernon.
She lived in Alberta for a few years but always returned to us here in Vernon. Predeceased by Dad in 1969, mom in 2017, and older sister, Nita, in 2019 in Calgary plus many aunts & uncles in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Left to remember her life are brother Bruce (Elaine) Siemens in Mahood Lake, and sister Faye (Richard) Cundall in Vernon, along with nephews, nieces and cousins scattered across Canada and the US.
Many thanks to Dr. Deetlefs, his staff and to the staff at The Gateby Care Residence who tended so carefully and lovingly to Deb during the last 3 1/2 months. Also, thanks to the staff at Chartwell Retirement Center where Deb spent a year.
At her request, Deb will be cremated and the ashes interred in the family plot at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Pleasant Valley Funeral Home is looking after the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local SPCA or animal rescue society. There will be no service.
