Brenda Dianne Hickson, age 73, of Desert Cove Estates Vernon, BC and long-time resident of Fort St. John BC, passed away peacefully with loved ones at her side on Friday, November 14th, at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She was born on December 24, 1951, in Clinton, Ontario.
Brenda was strong-willed, independent, and never afraid to speak her mind. She lived life on her own terms and found comfort and joy in the simple things—her home, her family, and the beauty of the outdoors. She loved golfing, playing games, and travelling throughout Canada. Some of her happiest moments were spent camping near rivers or lakes and navigating the waterways on her river jet boat, where she was always a trusted guide.
During her four-decade career as a school bus driver, Brenda took great pride in her work and in ensuring the safety of the children she transported—often in challenging weather. She also enjoyed training and mentoring fellow drivers, sharing her experience and dedication to safety. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ruby Triebner; her brothers, Gary and Ralph Triebner; her brother-in-law, Howard Bernard; and her beloved fur baby, Jinty.
She is survived by her life partner, Larry Fitchett; her daughter, Kimberley Milliken (Trevor); her son, David Hickson (Robyn); and her grandchildren, Emma and Jake Hickson. She is also survived by her siblings, Joan Bernard, Brian Triebner (Audry) stepdaughters, Tina Yates (Doug), Tracy McNeill (Kevin), and Larissa Price (Eric), along with many step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held in the summer of 2026 near Lucan Ontario, in the place she considered her old stomping grounds.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
