Borden was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He was a very adventure some young man. He belonged to Boy Scouts where he had the opportunity to go to Ontario to learn to sail. As a Demolay member he traveled to the United States where he met Eleanor Roosevelt at the basketball tournament they were attending. He loved music, dancing and singing.
Borden and Shirley packed up their young family and moved from Moose Jaw to Vernon in January 1965. He spent most of his working career at General Paint. It was there where he made many friends as he helped all with his expertise and keen eye for color mixing and matching. Borden was well known and respected by many in the Vernon business community.
He was an avid participant in most sports all his life; when slow pitch began, he was there. Golfing was his lifelong passion and it brought him great pleasure for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed all his golfing adventures with friends and family. He was a devout Saskatchewan Roughrider fan throughout his life.! Rider pride!
Borden supported his community for many years through Kinsmen and Lions, and the many projects they undertook including the establishment of the Venture Training Centre and the outdoor skating arena. He was a founding member of the the Vernon PeeWee Hockey Tournament Committee and assisted with it for several years. He spent a lot of time at the rink coaching and encouraging the young players.
Borden and Shirley spent many wonderful summers traveling in their little motorhome across all of western Canada,Yukon and Alaska.A travel bus tour to the Maritimes Newfoundland and Labrador was a highlight. He was generous, kind, loving and supportive. He will be remembered by his wife Shirley of 63 years, daughter Barbara (Brian), son Robert (Melodee), grandchildren Tyler and Hannah, sister Patsy, brother Terry, sister in law Pat, and all his special nieces and nephews.
