Born August 17, 1957 in Toronto, ON. Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 62 on January 29, 2020, after a 6 year battle with ALS. Predeceased by his mother Magdalane Jaeger. Survived by his loving wife of 14 years Darlene; father Robert Jaeger; son Simon (Jill) Jaeger; step children Colton & Dayna Hanley; his beautiful granddaughter Ivy; brother Wilfred (Judy); nephew Nick Jaeger and niece Emma Jaeger. He is also survived by his best hunting buddies Eugene and Jens – as well as so many other friends from hunting, taxidermy and guide outfitting company Sugar Valley Outfitters
Bernie spent many years working side by side with his father at his tannery and discovered his passion for taxidermy. From there, he began his almost 40 year long career doing what he loved; pouring immeasurable levels of talent into each and every piece he completed. Bernie was an avid hunter not only in the Okanagan, but all over the world, making many friends along the way. He continued working and hunting until he was no longer able to do so. ALS robbed Bernie of his quality of life, but he handled it with grace and dignity. He was appreciative, kind and humorous with the care aids who came daily, as well as his OT and nurses, always voicing his gratitude with each and every visit. We are so very thankful to the ALS Society, the Equpment Loan Program, and support groups. Also with special thanks to the Provincial Respiratory Outreach Program (P.R.O.P.) for their supply of the bi-pap machine Bernie used for 4 years allowing him to breathe more comfortably. Thank you to doctor Richard Harper for the exceptional care and friendship he provided.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bernie’s name to the ALS Society Equipment Loan Program www.alsbc.com or the Provincial Respiratory Outreach Program (P.R.O.P.) email: info@technologyforliving.org
Bernie leaves behind him a legacy of creativity and passion which lives on in his taxidermy. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road in Vernon, BC.
