November 6, 1943 – February 14, 2023
Born in Calgary, I always loved my name, Diane Doris Baker (now aka Daisy). When I was young, I was always the oldest, and when I was old, I was always the youngest. I lived my youth on the streets between the Stampede grounds and the zoo. This was the size of my city when I was the oldest. Living outdoors and sports were my life at a time when girls were supposed to sew and clean. I made a few mistakes along my way, but I tried to learn from them. After my adoptive mother died in 1971, I moved to the Westside of Okanagan Lake near Vernon, BC and began being the youngest.
My adoptive family all wait for me in Heaven and my birth parents as well, it seems. I’m related to the whole world as a Hungarian gypsy. Who knew? I leave behind 3 men I loved and 2 black cats, but my real love was being Canadian and having purple hair and wearing weird clothes.
Diane collected many friends over the years and will be sorely missed by her coworkers from various ski resorts and later the Vernon Probation office. Diane was an accomplished bowler, skier, and golfer as a long-time member of Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club. Diane is survived by a wonderful personal support network of individuals who helped her in so many ways since the White Rock Lake fire. These include IHA, Dr. Long, Parkwood Retirement Resort, life- long friends Candi and Shauna; sister, Mabel and close neighbours Sharon and Marilyn.
In keeping with an annual tradition, a pancake breakfast will be held in Diane’s honour on Saturday July 1, 2023 at 10:30 am at Spall Golf and Country Club. Oh Canada!
