Passed away Friday, March 18, 2022 in Gateby Care Centre at the age of 98. Born November 25, 1923 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Alexa was predeceased by her daughter Valerie and much later by her beloved husband Andrew.
Alexa joined Andrew in the Maritimes in 1943, lived in Calgary for many years and moved to Vernon in 1981 to be closer to her family. Alexa will be lovingly remembered by her girls, Beverley McWhinney (Rollie), Linda Weller (Klaus), grandchildren Brian Milligen (Wendy), Michael McWhinney (Corinne), Shannon McWhinney (Albert) Bob Milligen, great grandchildren Travis Milligen (Grace), Matthew Butterworth (Courtney), Carson Milligen (Syndee), Andrew and Aidan McWhinney. It was a joy for Alexa to see pictures of her 5 great, great grandchildren Jayel, Jude, Boaz, Lyra and Dara.
Alexa was passionate about family, dogs, walking, art, dance and reading. Enrolling at the
U of C when her ‘girls’ left home and graduating with a Bachelor of Education at the same time as her oldest daughter was a memorable achievement. Many parents and 5 year old students from her classes will remember having Mrs Anderson as the kindergarten teacher at J.W. Inglis where she was well loved.
A Celebration of Live will be held on Saturday, April 16th at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Dr. Redelinghuys, and the staff at Gateby for all the care and kindnesses she received over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vernon Salvation Army or the Vernon SPCA.
