Heidi was born on January 3, 1927 and passed away November 8, 2019 at the age of 92.
She was born in Seligenstadt, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1956 with her growing family. Heidi was predeceased by Otto, her husband, in 2007. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Joe (Bev), Ursula (John), Win (Lael), Elvira (Greg), and Angela (Paul). She is further survived by her grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Heidi will be remembered for her love of the outdoors. She was happiest hiking in the Alpine when the wildflowers were in bloom and the birds were singing. She was an enthusiastic and serious hiker and took pride in having covered many mountain paths far and wide. Her most challenging hike was the rugged 55 kilometer Chilkoot trail in Yukon/Alaska carrying a 50lb. pack. Besides being an active hiker, she also enjoyed cross country skiing and snowshoeing well into her later years.
Heidi was an exceptional homemaker and will be remembered for her wonderful baking and good coffee. The gingerbread houses she made for the grandchildren were masterpieces. She also knitted many beautiful sweaters and Afghan blankets and so much more.
Mom was afflicted with Alzheimer’s the last years of her life and suffered from severe memory loss, but she never forgot her children.
The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses at Heron Grove for the loving care they have given her over the past four years. Also, thank you to Dr. Long for the kind care he has given Mom for many years.
An afternoon tea to celebrate Heidi’s life will be held at the Prestige Inn on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 2:00 PM.
