Adam Baziw passed away peacefully at age 92 at Noric House on June 24th, 2024 with his loving wife, Oksana by his side.
Adam “Zeke” was born on October 3rd, 1931 in Alberta to Tatiana and Lukash Baziw. He was the second oldest of 5 children. Adam was predeceased by his parents, older brother Pete, younger brother Bill and younger sister, Ann.
Adam is survived by his wife, Oksana, who he met in the Ukraine while on one of his many adventures. He is also survived by Oksana’s daughter, Olya and grandson, Adam; his younger brother John (Liz); special niece, Christine, nephew Murray (Karen) and several more nieces and nephews.
Adam grew up in Vernon, attending Bearisto Elementary and Vernon High School. He excelled at many sports, including lacrosse, baseball, hockey and track and field, winning many awards and trophies. At some point during his school days Adam was nicknamed “Zeke” by a teacher. This nickname remained throughout his life.
Following his graduation in 1949 he hitchhiked to Ontario where he attended University of Windsor, obtaining his Master’s degree in engineering sciences. Adam then worked in the film industry in the east, where he met his (first) wife, Joyce who was a registered nurse. Following their marriage they moved to California. It is there that Adam began his real estate and developer career, becoming a well known and respected realtor in the area. Adam and Joyce enjoyed travelling and exploring the world. They also spent time at their cabin on Okanagan Lake with family and friends, with Zeke constantly improving and enjoying the property. Joyce passed away in 1982. Travel continued for Adam. He visited over 60 countries, often with a friend or travelling solo. It was in 2002 that he met Oksana on a trip to the Ukraine. Soon after they were married and moved to Vernon in 2004.
Adam and Oksana enjoyed their years in Vernon. Adam remained active, walking many kilometres a day, often with an A + W coffee stop included. He enjoyed puttering in their yard and continued his work on their lake property until only a few years ago. Zeke was also a big fan of the stock market and had all is paperwork laid out and the tv on in the kitchen so he could follow the markets and the news. He was also an avid reader of many magazines and newspapers. He enjoyed sitting out on the their deck watching the planes that flew close to their home. He commented often at the growth of Vernon and would point out what “used to be” in a certain place back when he was young. Adam had a great sense of humour and loved to talk about a variety of topics.
In September 2023 Adam moved to Noric House due to his declining health. He was loved by the staff and will be missed by them.
Adam’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Noric House for the excellent care they provided to him during his stay.
Zeke will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
