Kelowna Scores World Curling Event

Kelowna has been awarded the 2018 World Mixed Curling Championship.

The fourth annual event will be held October 13-20, 2018, the first time its been held in Canada.

“We are delighted to take our World Mixed event across the Atlantic for the first time. This event is proving to be a first-class development tool for our established and emerging Member Associations,” says World Curling Federation President Kate Caithness.

With its 12 sheets, the Kelowna Curling Club is one of the biggest clubs in Canada, along with Red Deer and Royal Caledonia in Regina.

Club General manager Jock Tyre says they are excited to be hosting the competition.

“This unique event allows unlimited number of countries to enter straight into a world championship. The Kelowna Curling Club is proud to be hosting countries from every continent and is looking forward to being an ambassador for the city and province.”

Kelowna has also hosted the 2002 World Junior and the 1986 World Women’s Curling Championships.
