Vernon School District Registration & Programs

Jan 9, 2018 | 12:07 PM

Registration for new students in the Vernon school district for next fall is about to get underway.

Maritza Reilly with the Vernon School Board says registration for Kindergarten and all grades begins January 15th at 9 am.

“Parents wishing to register their child in kindergarten can go to the school in their catchment area and register their child at that time.”

There are some things parents need to bring along.

“All new registrants will need a birth certificate, care card and an immunization record if they have that available.”

Parents or guardians will also need to provide a driver’s license or utility bill that clearly identifies their current address.

French Immersion registration for all grades will be accepted at Beairsto Elementary.

Registration will take place until Thursday February 15th from 9 a.m.- noon and 1 pm to 3 p.m.

The school district is also holding information nights this week for specialized programs

Information on Late French Immersion for students in grade six will be available Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Harwood Elementary.

Maritza Reilly says parents can also get information on the Montessori program at Silver Star Elementary in the school library tomorrow night at 6 pm.

“The Montessori program is a program for children in grades one to six and it’s where the children learn from each other and everyone contributes to the day.”

It allows each child to work at their own pace without feeling ahead or behind their peers.

Parents interested in having their children take part in school district Academies and Special programs will be able to get more information Thursday night.

Kalamalka Secondary School is hosting an information night at 6:30.

There are several to choose from.

“They include Earthquest which takes place at VSS, the forestry program at Charles Bloom, golf academy, soccer academy, swim academy, apprenticeship programs.”

The programs are available for all children from kindergarten through grade 12.

More details on the registration process and the Information Nights can be found on the school district website at www.sd22.bc.ca.
