UPDATE 10:45 am:

Police say a logging truck driver was given a violation ticket after his truck crashed north of Vernon.

The incident occurred on Highway 97 near Old Kamloops Road around 2:30 pm where the truck lost its load after its trailer hit a ditch and lost control.

“Fire Services, Commercial Vehicle and Safety Enforcement and RCMP all responded to the collision,” says Cst. Kelly Brett. “There was one single occupant of the logging truck, who did not sustain any injuries, and no other vehicles were involved.”

The logging truck was registered to a company out of Kamloops and the driver, a 47 year old man, was ticketed (fined) under the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to keep right.

5 pm Jan. 8:

Traffic had to be detoured on Highway 97 after a logging truck jack-knifed and spilled its load near Old Kamloops Road this afternoon.

BX-Swan Lake fire chief Bill Wacey says it was a bit of mess.

“It was blocking off three-quarters of the lanes, as in, one full lane southbound, and a portion of the northbound lane,” Wacey tells Beach Radio News.

Traffic was detoured using Old Kamloops and L & A Cross roads.

Wacey says no one was hurt in the incident said to involve a Kamloops driver.

Police are investigating the cause.

Traffic is getting through the site, but it may take some time for all the logs to be cleared.

Drive BC estimates the route could fully reopen at 6:30 pm.
