No Decision on Pickleball Financial Request

Jan 5, 2018 | 7:25 AM

Local government will take a closer look at reimbursing a local group for a 95-thousand dollar bill

That’s what the Vernon Pickleball Association is seeking from the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee for unexpected pre-work costs at its new site in Marshall Field.

The work include moving power and water lines in the area where their 12 court facility is being built.

GVAC director Jim Garlick says the work might have been needed in the future, regardless of the new facility.

“There would have been a cost to us, so it’s come up sooner rather than later. The other thing is, there is cost savings because the group took it on, and they were willing to do that, using their own labour.”

The request will be discussed during budget talks later this month.

GVAC chair Juliette Cunningham says they have to be careful, as other groups are also looking for assistance.

“North Valley Gymnastics is coming to our next meeting as a delegation. They’ve gone ahead and bought a building and now they’re looking for financial support because they need to make improvements to that building.”
