Film Studio Shuts Down

Jan 4, 2018 | 1:22 PM

A business venture tied to TV and movie productions in the valley has failed to pay off in Vernon.

Okanagan Studios — on the former Far West site on Kosmina Road — has closed down its studio after just over a year of operation.

The owner has put the two buildings up for sale, reportedly for 5.75 million dollars.

Okanagan Film Commissioner Jon Summerland confirms the closure, saying the owner had a very slow year and decided it wasn’t worth the investment.

He also says the buildings were not ideal for production, with ceilings that were too low, and were not “clear span.”

“However, Enderby Entertainment wanted it for “Peace,” and Minds Eye wanted it for “Daughter of the Wolf,” Summerland tells Beach Radio News. “But the owner had already decided to close the doors.”

Summerland says the Kelowna Soundstage is now complete and will open this month.

Beach Radio News has also requested comment from the owner.
