Kelowna Mountie Alerts Residents To Fire

A Kelowna Mountie will tell you he was just doing his job, but he’s a hero to residents of a town house complex in the 1200 block of Cameron Avenue after an overnight fire.

The officer was on patrol when he spotted massive flames coming from one of the units just after 12:30 this morning.

He blasted his police cruiser’s air horn and sirens to wake people up..

The officer began evacuating residents while awaiting firefighters and was soon joined by other officers.

They forced their way into as many as 3 separate units that were deemed to be in immediate danger of the spreading flames and In some cases police provided assistance to those with mobility issues from their homes.

Kelowna firefighters battled the blaze for several hours.

The evacuated residents were taken to the local Salvation Army building by Transit buses for temporary shelter.

At least six units were damaged by fire and 2 others have smoke damage.

Fire and police investigators are trying to determine the cause.
