Highways Like ‘Skating Rinks’

Emergency officials are describing conditions on the highways around Vernon as “like a skating rink.”

The combination of the existing icy conditions and the new snow today has created more treacherous conditions.

RCMP Cst. Kelly Brett says police have had to attend to a few accidents today.

“We’ve had a number of collisions, mostly minor, nothing serious in nature, and all the collisions have been related to icy conditions or losing control,” Brett tells Beach Radio News.

Emergency crews attended to a rollover on the highway south of Vernon near Vista Road, with one person taken to hospital.

Highway 97A to Armstrong is also described as very icy, with several incidents reported by callers to Beach Radio.

The general advice is not to drive unless you have to.
