Chain Reaction Crash

Dec 21, 2017 | 10:35 AM

A close call for a Vernon tow truck driver.

The truck was parked along Highway 97 near Bailey Road with its lights activated Wednesday around 5:30 pm, tending to a flat tire on a Ford Focus.

A Toyota Rav 4 came upon the site, and was unable to slow down and slid into the rear of the tow truck.

“This then created a chain reaction with the tow truck then hitting the Ford Focus from behind. There were two occupants in the Toyota Rav 4 at the time,” says Cst Kelly Brett.

Police say passengers in the Focus and Rav were checked out for minor injuries, while the tow truck driver was fortunate to avoid serious injury.

“RCMP are reminding motorists to slow down during the icy road conditions and move over when an emergency vehicle is roadside, giving them plenty of space to do their job,” says Brett. “As the weather continues to cool down significantly throughout the Okanagan over the next few days the icy conditions will persist. Please slow down and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination this holiday season.”
