Donations Slow To Come In

Dec 14, 2017 | 2:08 PM

The local United Way is struggling to meet its fundraising goal.

Executive director Linda Yule says donations are down significantly, generating just 41% of their target to date.

“I am deeply concerned. Currently, we’re at $99,000  out of a goal of $240,000. That said, we know that there are campaigns that are out there going on, that we just don’t have totals for yet,” Yule tells Kiss FM

The organization fundraises for 30 programs in the region supporting children, adults and seniors.

“Last year we were asked for 100% more than we had available to distribute. We know that several of our funded agencies are being asked for more services and looking to United Way to fill that need in the community. What do we not fund: post-partum depression, or after school programs, or pre-natal nutrition, or seniors? We don’t want to see these groups having to fundraise, they should be focusing on providing programs,” says Yule.

Yule is asking people to find out more — and donate — at www.unitedwaynocs.com.

“I am very worried for programs that are making positive outcomes for local people.”

Donations can be made by cheque at the United Way office at 3304 30th Avenue or by calling 250-549-1346 to give by credit card.
