City Of Vernon Looks At Compost Use

Vernon council has given the go ahead to a study looking into other ways to use compost from its regional biosolids composting facility on Commonage Road.

Mayor Akbal Mund says they have more than normal amounts at the facility, which could be used to grow a tree farm on city spray irrigation land.

“We’ll take some of our compost and spread it on the lands. We’ll grow some poplar trees there which can be used as chip product that’s needed at the plant, so it’s basically taking care of the compost which were have an abundance of,” says Mund.

Mund says depending on how the study goes, it could start by next summer, and he doesn’t expect any issues with odour.
