Update: Big Night For the Food Bank
UPDATE:
Residents have come through again for the Vernon Food Bank.
The 40th annual Realtor’s Food Drive in Vernon and Coldstream Wednesday night was a big success, as we hear from organizer Dawn Taylor.
“So far, we are around 33,000 pounds of food. We’re expecting four to five thousand more pounds to roll in the rest of the day,” says Taylor.
The Salvation Army says the donated items should keep their food bank well stocked until May.
Taylor thanks the close to 500 volunteers who helped out.
“It was very successful. All the volunteers were great, the citizens were generous. We’re very pleased, and the Salvation Army is too.”
The annual Realtor’s Food Drive in Greater Vernon is celebrating a milestone.
The event has been running 40 years, and because of that, organizers are hoping to generate 40-thousand pounds of food.
Organizer Dawn Taylor says they’ll have about 100 volunteers collecting food from homes in Vernon and Coldstream starting at 5 pm Wednesday.
“We have about 85 routes that we fill each year. Each year we try to add a new subdivision if we can get a volunteer in that area,” says Taylor.
Realtors were dropping off donation bags the last couple days, and residents are asked to leave a light on for the volunteers.
She says it has a big impact on the food bank.
“They’ve told us the food we collect fills their shelves until late into the spring, almost summer.”
Armstrong will also have events for their food banks tonight as well…Enderby’s was last night.
Taylor says homes that are missed can call any real estate office in town, and someone will be more than happy to pick up their donation.
