Close Call For Fire, RCMP
A scary incident for First Responders in Lake Country.
Police and fire were attending to a crash on the highway near Pelmewash Parkway around 8:30 Sunday morning when a Dodge Ram pickup truck ran into a fire truck and two other vehicles.
Two firefighters who were directing traffic, had to dive out of harm’s way while a snowmobile on the back of the pickup was launched 30 feet, landing on the northbound lanes of the highway.
“During this chain reaction crash, the Dodge pickup truck narrowly missed striking the marked police cruiser, with a Lake Country RCMP officer inside completing her police reports at the scene,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
Police believe the driver of the pickup may have fallen asleep.
The 23-year-old man of the North Okanagan Shuswap appeared to be uninjured.
“He was issued several charges under the BC Motor Vehicle Act, with fine amounts which totalled over $1,100,” says O’ Donaghey.
If you witnessed this crash and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to contact the Lake Country RCMP Detachment at 250-766-2288.
