Mall Bus Stop Discussed

Nov 29, 2017 | 6:06 AM

It’s been over a year since transit stops on 48th Avenue by the Village Green Mall were made permanent, even though the City of Vernon and some bus users preferred a site closer to the mall.

Councillor Juliette Cunningham feels it’s dangerous forĀ bus users having to walk across the parking lot, especially in the winter.

“It’s just not conducive to people using it that have mobility challenges or those with young kids, and last winter I saw a woman get stuck in her wheelchair in the snow. It’s just crazy,” Cunningham told Kiss FM.

While there have beenĀ talks between BC Transit and the mall over the issue, Cunningham says the City will also try to find a resolution.

“We directed staff to consult with Village Green Mall administration to see if we can resolve the issue of having off site transit stops. We prefer to have them on site. And if they can’t resolve that, then we would have to decide off-site, where they would be located,” says Cunningham.
