Stolen Vehicle Case Ends In Coldstream

A stolen vehicle suspect led police from Nakusp to Coldstream, eventually ending in an arrest.

A man driving a stolen Honda Civic failed to stop for police in Nakusp and boarded the Needles Ferry Monday morning.

It continued onto Highway 6 and into Lumby, moving at a high rate of speed and failing to stop at intersections.

Police didn’t pursue the car but set up spike belts along the highway to try and disable it.

The car veered off onto Kal Lake Road and proceeded into Coldstream, still going fast, and eventually hitting a dead end on Westkal Road.

“Given the risk to public safety as a result of the dangerous driving, the RCMP Air Services unit and a Police Dog Service unit was deployed,” says Constable Kelly Brett.

The suspect fled on foot, but was found hiding under a pile of kayaks in a backyard by a police service dog.

A 47 year old Kelowna man was taken into custody and treated in hospital for minor injuries.

“The apprehension of this driver, who posed an extreme risk to the community, would not have been possible without the quick actions of both detachments and all units who assisted,” says  Brett. “It is the top priority of the RCMP and its officers to safely apprehend dangerous drivers in their efforts to keep the public safe”.

The suspect is facing multiple charges including; dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, possession of stolen property and driving while prohibited.
