Family, Friends Remember Teen Victim

Nov 21, 2017 | 3:34 PM

Family, friends, and community members have remembered a young Vernon woman who died in an apparent homicide.

The remains of 18 year old Traci Genereaux were found by police on a farm property on Salmon River Road in Silver Creek last month.

Missing and murdered women’s advocate Meagan Louis says Genereaux was well known at the Upper Room Mission where her celebration of life was held Tuesday.

“A lot of the street people had known Traci. Every single person we talked to when we were canvassing the streets, everybody knew her, and everybody had nice things to say about her,” Louis told Kiss FM.

At this point, no charges have been laid in connection with her death.

“It’s emotional for the family and her friends, and pretty much anyone who knew her. The police aren’t saying much about what happened to her — probably for good reason. But I know the family does want closure,” adds Louis, who says the police likely don’t want to impact their evidence by giving out too much information.

Genereaux was last seen alive in May 2016.

Four other women are still listed as missing in the North Okanagan Shuswap since last year.

Media were not allowed into today’s service at the request of the victim’s family.
