New Tree For Downtown Light Up
Vernon’s Downtown Light-up takes place this Saturday from 5 to 8 pm.
The 24th annual event will feature more than 60 vendors from the 2900 block to 3400 block of 30th Avenue and the 3400 block of Coldstream Avenue.
“We’ve got live entertainment, visits with Santa, food trucks, a bonfire, crafts, ornament decorating, a hockey shoot out to name a few,” says Dudley Coulter, Events and Promotions Coordinator with the Downtown Vernon Association.
The official tree is also in a new location this year planted at 30th Ave and 35th St near the West side of Nature’s Fare parking lot.
It was actually planted five years ago for the event, but has just recently reached a suitable size at 30 feet and will be re-planted at the site.
“It’s a little shorter than usual at approximately 30 ft. compared to the usual 40 ft.,” says Coulter, “The Downtown Vernon Association thinks this is a great way to promote an environmentally friendly downtown core and look forward to watching it [the tree] grow with families for years to come.”
The main stage, visits with Santa, bonfire and ornament decorating will also be near the tree.
Many other activities, food, vendors and music will be happening along 30th Ave.
