Kelowna mayoral race: Dyas unveils ‘Treatment First’ approach

Kelowna mayoral candidate, incumbent Tom Dyas, has unveiled what he calls a Treatment First approach as the first part of his re-election platform.

Dyas said four years ago, when he came into office, Kelowna was under real pressure with crime and disorder affecting neighbourhoods and businesses, and a rental vacancy rate below one per cent.

He said his council invested in frontline public safety and they accelerated housing and infrastructure. 

Dyas said he’s pushing to end the current model at the Outreach Urban Health site downtown, while demanding expanded detox, treatment and recovery capacity in Kelowna.
