Coldstream seeking public input for water supply consideration

Jul 10, 2026 | 1:31 PM

The District of Coldstream has plans to amend its Official Community Plan to ensure water supply is protected, and wants the public to have their say in the change.

Under the proposed amendment, language would be added to the OCP’s Policy section.

  • Consider the capacity and long-term sustainability of regional water supply systems when evaluating land use designations, rezonings and subdivision applications, in consultation with the Greater Vernon Water Utility.
  • Support development sequencing that aligns with available water servicing capacity and planned infrastructure upgrades to ensure growth matches servicing capacity.

An addition will also be made under the OCP’s Development section.

  • The District may require applicants to provide information demonstrating the availability of adequate water supply and servicing capacity for proposed development, including confirmation from the applicable water provider and, when required, submission of a water supply or servicing assessment.

Before moving forward with the amendments, the public will be able to have their say on the proposed changes.

A special Public Hearing regarding the amendments will be held at Coldstream Municipal Hall Monday, July 13, for people to provide their input on the matter. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
