Funding supporting recreating trails in the North Okanagan, B.C.

Locals and visitors will have upgraded amenities when recreating in the North Okanagan’s back country.

The B.C. Government is supporting two trail enhancement projects in the North Okanagan through its Off-Road Vehicle (OFV) Trail Fund.

The Vernon Snowmobile Association is being gifted $13,692 through the program to do trail maintenance at the Trinity Recardo Rec Site, which is located east of Armstrong and north of Silver Star Park.

The Lumby Mabel Lake Snowmobile Association will also be receiving $10,500 through the program to install solar panels and new tech at the Park Mountain Chalet.

“Funding from the Off-Road Vehicle Trail Fund will enable the Vernon Snowmobile Association to carry out essential trail clearing and brushing, improving safety and access across our managed trail network,” Grant Anderson, Director of the Vernon Snowmobile Association, said in a release.

“This work will help ensure trails remain open and passable for responsible recreation while also supporting First Nations access to traditional lands for cultural, harvesting and stewardship activities. The funding strengthens partnerships and promotes shared, respectful use of the landscape for all users.”

The local projects are among 24 across B.C. benefiting from a combined $500,000 investment through the OFV Trail Fund. Other area recipients include:

Okanagan Trail Rider Association: $24,992.74 to replace signage at Bald Range Burke, near Bear Creek
Hunters Range Snowmobile Association: $17,000 to replace the main chalet’s roof
Sled Revelstoke: $25,000 for outhouse upgrades
Revelstoke ATV Club: $17,990 to maintain the Sproat Mountain Lookout access

Another $25,000 will be used to support the B.C. Offroad Motorcycle Association with its Rider Safety Education Program.

“Outdoor recreation is increasingly recognized as essential to our well-being, community connection and regional economic development,” Tamara Davidson, Minister of Environment and Parks, stated.

“The ORV Trail Fund helps remove financial barriers for communities and volunteer groups that dedicate thousands of hours to maintaining trail networks, ensuring they remain safe, accessible and sustainable for years to come.”
