Alternative Approval Process being used for RDNO wastewater project loan

An Alternative Approval Process has been launched to determine in a loan should be sought for a new Swan Lake Wastewater Recovery project.

The project requires borrowing $4.8-million in order to build an efficient wastewater collection and recovery system.

Before moving ahead with the project the RDNO will need to secure a loan, and will use the Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to garner public support or opposition to the project.

Under the AAP process people will need to submit a response form, which can be found online here. If 10 per cent or more of the eligible voters in the region oppose seeking the loan, then the RDNO will not pursue securing that money.

The RDNO said the Swan Lake Wastewater Recovery project would serve the environment, residents and businesses in parts of Electoral Areas B and C, the Township of Spallumcheen and Okanagan Indian Band by addressing environmental impacts associated with existing septic systems in the area; improving surface and groundwater quality; providing infrastructure to support residential, agricultural, and economic development; and delivering reclaimed water for agricultural irrigation.
