Mrs. Helen Lysakowski, lovingly known to all as “Baba,” passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026 (Mother’s Day) at the age of 98.
Born in Rife, Alberta, Helen was one of eleven children and spent her early years growing up in Glendon, Alberta. She later made her home in Edmonton, where she raised her family and spent the majority of her life. She relocated to Vernon, British Columbia in 2015 where she enjoyed the final eleven years of her life.
Baba will be remembered for her selfless spirit, quick wit, and the deep love she shared so generously with family and friends. She found great joy in caring for others and expressed that love through her many talents. An exceptional baker, her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and homemade treats. She was infamously known for her “oaties”. She was also a gifted seamstress and knitter, creating beautiful handmade treasures that will continue to be cherished by those fortunate enough to receive them. She knit over 80 custom Christmas stockings in her lifetime. Her happiest moments were those spent playing cards and Bingo with family and friends.
Above all, Baba’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She leaves behind her loving children, Michael (Sheryll) Lysakowski and Marlene (Vern) Belsheim; her cherished grandchildren, Amanda (Kevin) Kemp, Melanie (Endi) Inzunza, Erika Belsheim, and Sarah (Ben) Giourmetakis and her adored great-grandchildren, Baya & Orlando, Morgan & Madden, Mathew and great grand-pup, Niko. She also leaves her sister-in-law Helene Arechuk.
She was predeceased by her husband, Steve, and her grandson, Ryan.
Baba’s kindness, generosity, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
