Vernon Clean Team program expanding into the fall, winter
The crew that is tasked with keeping Vernon beautiful will have some extra work this year.
The Downtown Clean Team pilot program sees a pair of city workers tasked with addressing issues raised from the public, such as graffiti and vandalism cleaning, picking up litter, collecting abandoned shopping carts, and handling hazardous materials and sharps.
The team operates June through September, but at their meeting on Monday, April 13, Vernon City Council agreed to provide the service October 1 through December 31 this year as well.
City staff said the Clean Team was a pilot program and the city did not have exact information on the need of the team over the fall and winter months, but did indicate they had received many requests from the public for the team’s work during that period last year. Councillor Kari Gares also said the Downtown Vernon Association voiced a need to have that team working in those months too.
