Vernon seeking boost to its FireSmart activities
The City of Vernon will look for a boost to help fund wildfire-risk reduction activities.
The Union of BC Municipalities is offering grants to support FireSmart related initiatives. Those include community education and outreach, FireSmart home and neighbourhood assessments, wildfire resiliency planning, and training and capacity building for FireSmart positions.
UBCM will offer grants through its Community Resiliency Investment FireSmart Community Funding and Supports program.
That program previously offered up grants on a first-come first-serve model, but had since changed to consider applications on a competitive basis. It was also altered to now offer funding for one-year projects and to no longer support fuel management work.
