West Kelowna RCMP identify suspects in water reservoir incident

West Kelowna RCMP say all individuals involved in a March 19 incident at the Tallus Reservoir have been identified and are cooperating with investigators.

The event caused only minor property damage, but the precautionary “Do Not Consume Water” order for parts of the Rose Valley Water Service Area remains in effect.

Authorities took swift action last Thursday night to isolate the reservoir after potential unauthorized access, minimizing risk of contamination. Initial testing found no E. coli or total coliform.

Residents in affected areas, including Shannon Lake and Tallus Ridge, are advised to continue following the order and can access free water at the bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads. Officials say the order will remain until all test results and safety checks are complete, in consultation with Interior Health and the RCMP.

The City of West Kelowna resumed routine water main flushing in the Rose Valley area on March 10, which can cause temporary discolouration but does not affect water safety.

Residents are encouraged to check the city’s website for updates and alerts.
