Bursaries on offer for local students exploring Performing Arts studies

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre is lending its support to local youths looking to explore studies in the arts.

The Performing Arts Centre (VDPAC) opened applications for its Performing Arts Bursary Program, with a total of $3,000 on offer to help high schoolers and those already enrolled in post-secondary performing arts programs pay for their schooling.

Students from Greater Vernon, Coldstream, or Electoral Areas B and C can apply for the grants to help cover the costs of their studies in accredited Performing Arts or Performing Arts Management programs, or in recognized apprenticeship programs aligned with those programs.

Bursary applications must be submitted via email or to the VDPCA by midnight Monday, April 13. Details about the program and how to apply can be found online here.

“This year, with the help of School District 22, we were able to include an invitation to apply as part of SD22’s package of available bursaries and scholarships, so we could reach as many area graduating students as possible wanting to pursue post-secondary education in the performing arts or management. Bursary recipients are eligible to receive a maximum of two VDPAC bursaries over their post-secondary career,” VDPAC’s executive director, Jim Harding, said in a release.

VDPAC had initially closed the application process for SD22 graduates on March 9, but the organization decided to allow those who missed that deadline to submit their applications within the new timeframe.
